Free Ice Cream Cone + Scoop Crochet Pattern

My daughter is obsessed with playing ice cream. She’s been playing with an old version I made a while ago so I decided to give it a little update and also make it possible to swap the scoops. This little set is perfect for pretend play! Make multiple cones and scoops in different flavours and play ice cream shop and cafe. This is also great for introducing colour work for babies and toddlers as you can use any colours you’d like!

You can use different size yarns for this project, but it is really important that you use a much smaller than recommended crochet hook. This will help to keep the ice cream cone nice and sturdy.

What you are going to need:

3.25mm crochet hook

aran weight yarn (I used Yarn and Color ‘Epic’ and Scheepjes ‘Cahlista’)

stitch marker

knitting/darning needle

small amount of toy stuffing

Abbreviations:

MR – magic ring

sl st – slip stich

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

inc – work two single crochet stitches in one stitch

dec – single crochet two stitches together

(inc, 3 sc) – increase, then 3 single crochet stitches in each of the next 3 stitches

(….) x 3 – repeat the instruction 3 times

Ice Cream Cone + Scoop Crochet Pattern

This pattern is written in US crochet terms. The pattern is crocheted in continuous spiral unless stated otherwise.

Ice Cream Cone

Round 1: Work 5sc into MR (5 sts)

Rounds 2 – 3: sc around

Round 4: (inc, 1 sc) x 2, 1 sc (7 sts)

Rounds 5 – 6: sc around

Round 7: (inc, 2 sc) x 2, 1 sc (9 sts)

Rounds 8 – 9: sc around

Round 10: (inc, 2 sc) x 3 (12 sts)

Rounds 11 – 12: sc around

Round 13: (inc, 3 sc) x 3 (15 sts)

Round 14 – 15: sc around

Round 16: inc x 15 (30 sts)

Round 17: sl st around

Round 18: work hdc in each st of Round 16

Rounds 19 – 20: sc around

Round 21: sl st around

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ice Cream Scoop

Round 1: Work 6sc into MR (6 sts)

Round 2: inc x 6 (12 sts)

Round 3: (inc, 1 sc) x 6 (18 sts)

Round 4: (inc, 2 sc) x 6 (24 sts)

Round 5: (inc, 5 sc) x 4 (28 sts)

Rounds 6 – 10: sc around

Round 11: (dec, 5 sc) x 4 (24 sts)

Round 12: (dec, 2 sc) x 6 (18 sts)

Round 13: (dec, 1 sc) x 6 (12 sts)

Round 14: dec x 6 (6 sts)

Cut yarn. Thread the yarn through the remaining 6 stitches, pull tight, weave in ends and fasten off.
